Poetry Paths Template

While there are endless ways to create an emotionally moving poem, one of the most widely used techniques is through turns—the point, or points, a poem shifts, either in subject, tone, or meaning. Through turns, poems have the potential to veer readers to new ground, one understanding to a different one, almost like a plot twist, or a reveal, comparable to a sharp turn off paved asphalt onto a dirt trail, or an engine-gun off the edge of a cliff. Use this outline to plot your poem’s turns, or to create a new poem that leads readers along a different path: a journey that changes them.
